PRINT MANAGEMENT
(any quantity, any size)

Need 25,000 pieces and don't know how to work effectively with printers to get what you need? We work with local printers who produce high quality work for less. We explore paper, ink and size options, to make sure you get the final piece you envisioned.

ILLUSTRATION & PHOTOGRAPHY
We utilize a variety of stock artwork. If we cannot find what you need, EcoChica Design can create the artwork. We also work with many local illustrators and photographers if you require custom illustration or photography.

MINIMIZING COST
Graphic Design project budgets range in price depending on what services are being provided to the client. The table below shows varying budgets for projects, based on client needs, and what roles the Client and Designer play in the process:

ECO-FRIENDLY
EcoChica Design is committed to resource conservation. We practice waste prevention in the office, by conducting the majority of our business ‘paper-free’. We encourage our clients to use post-consumer recycled content paper and soy inks in their projects, and choose designs that minimize waste and avoid toxic chemicals in the printing process.

Here are some simple ways to help the environment in your next graphic design project (www.ecographics.com provided some of these tips ):

·         CHOOSE RECYCLED PAPER
Post-Consumer = from used office residential paper
Pre-Consumer = from fiber scraps in the manufacturing of new paper

Contrary to popular belief, there are a wide variety of recycled-content stocks made from paper, money, cotton, plastic, denim and more. These come in many weights, colors, finishes, and many that don’t have ‘flecks’.

·         USE SOY INK
Printers prefer soy ink, so asking for it should not be a problem. Other inks use petroleum, which emits volatile organic compounds (VOC's) into the air as they dry. VOC emissions are dangerous and restricted by the EPA in urban areas which suffer from reduced air quality.

·         COLORS
If your project does not require full-color to be effective, choose one or two colors instead. Printing involves the use of chemicals, photographic film, and custom metal plates for your project. Full-color (four-color) printing doubles the amount of waste created in this process. The added complexity of aligning four colors increases the waste even further.

·         SIZE
Make sure your Designer keeps the printer’s “parent sheet” in mind. For example, if the parent sheet is only available in 23 x 35, (a very common size), a design with a finished size of 8½ x 11 will lose about 7% of the paper cost to trim waste. The same design with a finished size of 9 x 12 will lose about 33% of the paper cost to trim waste. ONE THIRD of the money you paid for paper would be going straight to the recycling bin! Not only does it cost more, but it is more harmful on the environment.

·         BLEEDS
Consider whether or not your design needs bleeds (when ink is printed all the way to the edge of the paper). These are very popular with graphic artists because of the increased impact that they can give to a design. However, since it is not practical to print an image across the edge of a sheet of paper, designs with bleeds are printed on oversized sheets and trimmed to finish size, giving the appearance of a printed image extending to the paper’s edge (there are extra costs for the trimming as well). If you decide to use bleeds, choosing a finished size slightly smaller than standard (such as 8 x 10.5) can result in significant cost savings for the client (less wasted paper).
